House of Knives is proud to offer a range of new products from Katz Knives! Similar to House of Knives, Katz Knives, founded in 1991 by Keith Derkatz, is a Canadian owned and operated company. But that’s where things get a little confusing. The blades have Chandler, USA stamped one side, and Japan on the other side, since that’s where they are made. But isn’t this a Canadian company?

What the owner of the company, Mr. Keith Derkatz, found was that it was much easier to market his company in the USA, so he set everything up in Arizona, even though he calls Kelowna, BC Canada his home base. However, the majority of his global shipments come from the Okanagan, and proudly display maple leaf stickers on the boxes, promoting the company’s Canadian roots.

Back to the knives, the entire line of Katz Knives is made of materials sourced directly from Japan. While China and Taiwan are doing amazing things, the quality is still in the Japanese market. The only things that are not made in Japan, are the sheaths, which are custom made in Spain or the USA.

The selection of Katz Knives that are stocked in your local House of Knives retail location, are made of XT-80, which is based on AUS-8 steel.  The difference is that it is heat treated and tempered to much higher standards.  What you will find through use is that the knives hold an incredible edge, yet they are easy enough to re-sharpen in the field that you don’t need specialized tools right at hand.

House of Knives carries a wide range of Katz Knives, including folding blades and fixed blades, and are fitted with high quality blonde ash, cherry wood or rubberized handles. You’ll pay a premium price for these, but you’ll have something that will last you a lifetime if maintained properly.

While Katz Knives were made with the hunter in mind, knives like the Kagemusha folding (shown above) have multiple uses, both around the house, and in the field.
